Wandering Around Out There With A Canoe On My Head

Getting Out There On A Long Weekend

How was your long weekend?

Oh boy do I need to get away. We couldn’t get out there last weekend – yeah I know, the long weekend. It can be a bit of a bummer seeing everyone’s paddling photos when you’re stuck inside. (I’m actually pretty happy Nancy can’t see the photos. At least not without my help logging into the computer.)

So instead, I spent some time thinking about past trips and looking at old photos. It was a fun trip, you know, down memory lane. The trip from this photo was a particularly fun one. We had to hide two paddles for the Paddle In The Park Contest , so we wound up heading down the French River for a few days, then we drove out to Killarney to hide another. We saw a bunch of great scenery, visited some places I hadn’t before, paddled under a highway, passed a moose, saw a wolf, almost caught a loon (that was Nancy, and it wasn’t really all that close) saw some meteors and even ended up seeing an eclipse. Even the road trip was fun, even after running over a piece of metal that flew off a truck ahead of us. But that part wasn’t so bad. If nothing else, it extended the trip a little longer.

That’s what so great about getting out there. I might not have made too many memories this past weekend, but there’s so many good times on those trips that they make up for the times stuck at home.

Of course, that’s all well and good, but it’s not going to stop me from bolting out the door for the woods just as soon as I can.  See you out there!
